On sacred grounds

De site van de oude gelatinefabriek in Hasselt. Had ik het geld en het netwerk, maakte ik er een creatief woondorp van. Met een grote gemeenschappelijke tuin, inclusief zwemvijver en moestuin. En een tweedehandswinkel zou zich er gerust ook mogen huisvesten. Wat er precies met de grond gaat gebeuren, is echter niet duidelijk. Sommigen zeggen dat er inderdaad iets creatief mee gaat gebeuren, anderen zeggen dat het plaats moet maken voor de 'blauwe boulevard' - een project dat de Hasseltse kanaalkom aantrekkelijker moet maken. Allemaal goed en wel, maar ik ga hoogstpersoonlijk op de barricades staan als dit inspirerend stukje Hasselt verdwijnt. Een oproep aan de stad dus én aan potentiële investeerders: doe hier iets mee! 

Welcome to the old grounds of the gelatin fabric in Hasselt. If I had the money and the network, I'd make it a creative place to live. With a giant shared garden, swimming pond and vegetable garden included. And a second-hand store would be convenient too. But no one seems to be very sure about what will happen with this piece of land. Some say that indeed some creative plans are waiting approval, others say it will be dismantled for the so called 'blue boulevard'-project, making the area around the canal more attractive. I do think that this area of Hasselt needs to be upgraded, but I will definitely be standing on the barricades when they decide to get rid of the leftovers of the gelatin fabric. So to the city ánd possible investors: do something with it!
